Northern Lights Public Schools is pleased to recognize Lyrissa Shewchuk, an educational assistant at Duclos School, as this month’s Staff Shining Star. Since joining the Duclos School team two years ago, Lyrissa has displayed professionalism and compassion in her role, positively impacting the lives of the students and staff she works alongside.
Lyrissa's time at Duclos School has been marked by her commitment to supporting students with diverse needs, particularly in speech and language development. Jodee Conrad, Assistant Principal at Duclos School, attests to Lyrissa's commitment and empathetic attitude:
"Lyrissa has had a profound impact on the lives of her students, and on our school culture as a whole. She excels in speaking with children and meeting them at their level. In particular, she is very adept at calming and diffusing situations where students have become upset and are having difficulties regulating their emotions. Although her role can be a very challenging assignment, Lyrissa applies herself with calmness, patience, respect, and positivity.”
Born and raised in Bonnyville, Lyrissa loves spending time making memories with her family, hiking, and continuing on a never-ending quest to find the perfect pastry.
“Watching my students grow and reach important milestones brings me joy. Knowing they trust me to be there for them, whether it's for a hug or a helping hand, is incredibly rewarding. I'm grateful for the friendships I've formed with my colleagues, because they make even the longest days feel brighter.”
Lyrissa is skilled at navigating the complexities of supporting students with diverse needs on a day-to-day basis, fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment. Whether calming distressed students or collaborating with fellow staff members, Lyrissa's contributions extend far beyond the classroom.
