NLPS Friends of Education Award

    Overview

    The Friends of Education Awards were introduced in 2010 to recognize individuals and organizations that make special contributions to education in Northern Lights Public Schools.

    Eligibility

    Nominees must meet the following criteria to be eligible for an award:

    1. Should be demonstrably committed to the improvement of education for students within NLPS.
    2. Have made a significant contribution to education impacting more than one school in the division, or at one school in the division over a significant timeframe.

    Award Criteria

    Nominations should include the following information:

    • The nominee’s particular area of service, outlining the demonstrated outstanding leadership and competence.
    • The benefits that have been derived by students as a result of the nominee’s actions.
    • The timeframe within which the nominee made their contributions to education.
    • The nominee’s relationship with the various members of the education community.
    • Examples of how the nominee has demonstrated an interest in and support for education.
    • The nominee’s involvement in community activities other than those noted in the field of education.
    • Comments on the nominee’s commitment to students, schools and the community.

    Categories

    NLPs will consider nominations on a regional basis, with the goal of recognizing a minimum of one individual, business or organization from each region on an annual basis. 

    Nomination Process

    Nominations may be submitted by staff, students, parents/guardians or community members.

    Nomination packages must include:

    • A completed nomination form (see below);
    • A letter of nomination outlining how the nominee meets the criteria for the award (maximum of three pages)

    Nomination Deadline

    Nominations must be received by June 15th.

    Procedures

    1. Nominations will be reviewed by the Boards’ awards committee prior to June 30th
    2. Award recipients will be notified in September and arrangements made to recognize them at a board meeting or division event.
