Reporting an Absence

Student safety comes first.

We want to make sure that every student who leaves for school in the morning arrives at school safely.

If your child will be absent, please use one of the convenient options below to let us know that they won't be attending school.

If a student doesn't arrive at school and no absence has been reported, we will reach out to confirm they are safe. This will include automated phone calls, emails and text messages.

4 Ways to Report an Absence

  • Use the School Messenger App
  • Online: access School Messenger in the PowerSchool Parent Portal or go to go.schoolmessenger.ca 
  • Call 1-833-288-7008 toll-free
  • Call the school directly

Reporting an Absence with the School Messenger App

  • Open the App and log in.
  • On the left-hand side, click on the three lines to access the menu. Choose Attendance.
  • Click on Report an Absence (purple circle in the lower right hand corner).
  • Select the name of the child who will be absent. If more than one of your children will be absent, each absence needs to be reported separately.
  • Select the type of absence: Full day, Late, Early Departure, Leave and Return, Multiple Day.
  • Select the absence reason: Illness, Buses Not Running, Vacation, Medical Appointment, Personal or Other Reason.
  • Choose the date of the absence.
  • Click Send.
  • You will receive a notification that the student's absence has been reported.

Reporting an Absence with School Messenger Online

  • Log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and click on School Messenger on the left hand side of the screen, or log in directly at go.schoolmessenger.ca.
  • On the left-hand side, click on the three lines to access the menu. Choose Attendance.

  • From the Who will be absent drop down menu, select the name of the child who will be absent. If more than one of your children will be absent, each absence needs to be reported separately.

  • Select the absence reason: Illness, Buses Not Running, Vacation, Medical. Appointment, Personal or Other Reason.

Reporting an Absence with the Safe Arrival Toll-Free Number

  • Dial 1-833-288-7008.
  • Enter a phone number that you have provided to your child's school.
  • Follow the prompts.
  • Do not hang up before you get a confirmation number.
  • You will receive a notification that the absence has been reported.

Reporting an Absence by Calling Your Child's School

  • Call your child's school.
  • Talk to the administrative assistant who answers or leave a voicemail.
  • If you have multiple children who will be absent and they attend different schools, you will need to call each school separately.
  • You will not receive an email/text notification confirming that the absence has been reported.
