February 2022 - Self-Compassion

This month's Wellness Wednesday theme is Self-Compassion. Our Mental Health Team (Student Advocacy Counsellors and Wellness Coaches) will be focusing on compassion and self-compassion with students in our schools this month. They have also created a list of activities and resources that parents and guardians can use at home to focus on this theme.

We are also sharing information on upcoming workshops and sessions that are available for parents in our region. 

Self-Compassion Activities

    Words of kindness to speak to others and to yourself.

  • 3 Self-Compassion Exercises (Positive Psychology)
    Detailed instructions about exercises and tools you can use to help those around you practice self-compassion.

    This website is full of great information, exercises and resources about self-compassion. 

  • Teaching Kids to Forgive (Great! Schools)
    Nine steps to help children learn how to forgive and develop an invaluable life skill.

    This article outlines three practices to bring a little mindfulness and calm to your busy day.

Local Workshops and Sessions

  • How to Talk to Your Teens About Sex - Feb. 2, 7-8:30 p.m.
    Tami Buroker, Child Development Specialist with AHS will provide some insight for parents on this important and often challenging subject. For more information or to register call 780-645-5311.

  • The Ins and Outs of Bullying - Feb. 10, 7:30-9 p.m.
    Lac La Biche County FCSS is hosting this session for anyone with children aged 6-16. A registered psychologist will discuss bullying, types of bullying, who is doing it, who is receiving it and why. For more information, call 780-520-9868 or email cornelia.fechner@laclabichecounty.com

  • It Starts with Hope Parent Group - Feb. 23, 7-9 p.m.
    Our Successful Families, Successful Kids program partners with Lac La Biche County FCSS o offer a monthly workshop for parents. Join instructor Solene Lamoureux and learn the art of wood burning. NLPS Wellness Coach Mackenzie Martin will discuss the concept of resiliency as we deal with the day-to-day challenges in our lives.
