Senior administration from Conseil scolaire Centre-Est, Lakeland Catholic Schools, and Northern Lights Public Schools met earlier today to reassess student participation in sports tournaments and games. In January all three school divisions had agreed to follow the recommendation in the new Guidance for Schools (K-12) and School Buses to limit extracurricular sport tournaments and inter-school games temporarily.
Starting on Thursday, February 10, students in grades 7 to 12 in all three school divisions will return to competition. This includes inter-school games and tournaments. A tentative return to competition for students in grades 4 to 6 has been set for February 22, 2022.
Games and tournaments hosted within the three school divisions will not be open to spectators at this time. This is the procedure that has been in place since the start of the 2021-2022 school year.
Conseil scolaire Centre-Est, Lakeland Catholic Schools, and Northern Lights Public Schools will continue to work together to monitor and reassess participation in sports and communicate any changes that are made to stakeholders.
