Policy Appendix E: Communications and Recognition Committee

The Communications and Recognition Committee is established as a standing committee of the Board, with responsibilities for work as detailed below:

  1. Purpose
    1. To enhance internal and external communications and stakeholder recognition
  2. Powers and Duties
    1. Develop a Board Public Relations plan for Board approval and make budget recommendations to facilitate implementation.
    2. Review the division’s annual Communications Plan.
    3. Develop a recognition plan and appropriate operating budget.
    4. Review potential nominations for provincial awards, including awards presented by Alberta School Boards’ Association and Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta, make recommendations to the Board for approval, and submit the appropriate applications. Responsibility for reviewing nominations for the Edwin Parr Teacher Award will remain with the ad hoc committee established for that purpose.
    5. Review submissions for all awards or scholarships sponsored by or facilitated by the Board and make recommendations to the Board for approval where applicable.
    6. Organize and plan recognition activities.
  3. Membership
    1. Maximum of three trustees
    2. Superintendent and/or designate(s)
  4. Meetings
    1. Called in a timely manner by the Committee Chair or Administration.
