The NLPS Board of Trustees gave final approval to the 2025-2026 School Calendar, ensuring a balanced schedule that prioritizes student learning, staff development, and family needs.
“The feedback we received from our School Calendar Survey was invaluable in shaping this year’s calendar,” said Board Chair Karen Packard. “Our goal is always to create a calendar that best supports student learning and achievement while also considering the needs of families and staff.”
Students will start the new school year on September 2, after the Labour Day long weekend. Staff return to school a week earlier to prepare for students and participate in professional development.
“As part of our division priority to increase student achievement, it is important that we provide professional development opportunities for our staff,” explained Packard. “This year’s calendar includes eight dedicated PD days for staff that will allow them to focus on learning without impacting student instructional time.”
The 2025-2026 School Calendar features four-day long weekends for students in September (Truth and Reconciliation Day), October (Thanksgiving), November (Remembrance Day), and May (Victoria Day), as well as a two-week break at Christmas and a one-week Spring Break at Easter.
A key consideration in developing this year’s calendar was aligning breaks with other local school divisions where possible.
“We heard clearly from both parents and staff that having similar break schedules makes planning easier for families,” explained Packard. “While there are a couple of differences, all of the major breaks align to help reduce confusion in our communities.”
