Roy Ripkens

Trustee Roy Ripkens, a lifelong Albertan, received his post-secondary education at the
University of Alberta. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (political science and history); a Bachelor of Education (social studies major and business education minor); and, a Masters of Education with a focus on teacher training and curriculum development. Roy began his teaching career in 1984 at Kehewin Community Education Centre. 1988 saw Roy move to Lakeland Public School District to teach at H.E. Bourgoin School and later, at Bonnyville Centralized High School. 
In 1998, Mr. Ripkens was seconded to Division Office to establish and build career education programs, and later, the outreach system of schools. After his secondment ended, Mr. Ripkens was selected to take on the position of Director of Instructional Services. Subsequently, he became Assistant, Associate, and finally Deputy Superintendent of Northern Lights Public Schools. He also worked for time as Acting Secretary-Treasurer and Acting Superintendent.  
Mr. Ripkens retired in 2016 and was elected an NLPS trustee in 2021. Roy has many areas of interest in education, but his major focus is on improving students’ achievement and career education. He has extensive experience in Board membership including the Attendance Board of Alberta, the Lakeland Centre for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Board and two terms on the Portage College Board of Governors.
