Hey there, amazing parents and students!
As the leaves start to change and the scent of fresh beginnings fills the air, we're excited to delve into September's mental health theme: Self-Reflection and Awareness. This month, let's journey inward to discover the power of self-awareness and the magic of introspection. At Ardmore School, the Grade 8 Leadership class has been busy planning and facilitating the school assembly about Self-Reflection and Awareness, as well as going into all the classrooms doing activities on these topics. Here are some of the books they’ve been reading with students:
- It's Ok to be Different by Todd Parr
- Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae
- Hooray for You! A Celebration of You-ness by Marianne Richmond

Fostering Self-Awareness: Tips for Students
In the hustle and bustle of school life, nurturing self-awareness lays a foundation for growth. Encourage your child to explore their strengths, passions, and challenges, fostering resilience and adaptability. As they embark on this new academic year, remind them that self-reflection is a superpower that helps them thrive in both studies and life.
Students, embrace self-awareness for a fulfilling school journey:
- Keep a reflective journal to capture thoughts and feelings.
- Set aside quiet time to ponder your aspirations and goals.
- Engage in hobbies that bring joy and self-discovery.
- Seek feedback to enhance personal growth.
- Practice empathy to understand and connect with others.
