Policy Appendix F: Truth and Reconciliation Committee

The Truth and Reconciliation Committee is established as a standing committee of the Board, with responsibilities for work as detailed below:

  1. Purpose
    1. Seek ways to enhance or improve Indigenous education across the Division.
    2. Explore and support opportunities and practices to facilitate reconciliation within the school community.
    3. Build strong relationships with Indigenous community groups and members to advance work on the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.
  2. Powers and Duties
    1. Review and assess Divisional strategies with Administration for improving Indigenous student success.
    2. Advance the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action through engagement of stakeholders.
    3. Review Aboriginal Achievement Award criteria and select recipients.
  3. Membership
    1. Minimum three (3)  trustees
    2. Superintendent and/or designate(s)
  4. Meetings
    1. Minimum of three (3) meetings annually (Tentatively October, January-February, April).
