Northern Lights School Division works in conjunction with Lakeland College and Portage College to offer Dual Credit programs.
Dual credit opportunities allow high school students to participate in post-secondary courses, earning both high school and post-secondary coursework credits.
To reflect that different models and approaches exist …dual credit also includes preferred placement and workplace certification opportunities:
Preferred placement: Post-secondary institutions can exempt students from courses (often at the first-year level) in recognition of coursework completed in high school
Workplace certification: Provincial high school curricula, particularly Career and Technology Studies (CTS), provide students with opportunities to achieve workplace certification through a variety of credentialed pathways to give high school students more marketable employment skills. www.albertadualcredit.ca

RAP (Registered Apprenticeship Programs) and Power Engineering are included in Dual Credit programming at the high school level in Northern Lights School Division.
- Both High School credits and eligible hours toward journeyman certification are earned by participating RAP students.
- 4th Class Power Engineering programs would allow for high school credits to be earned as well as cover the curricular content toward journeyman certification.
Program offerings at NLSD schools differ, and are dependent on local factors and demand. Costs vary at postsecondary institutions, and program offerings are dependent on demand.
For more information on these programs please contact the career counselling staff at your local high school.
