The Northern Lights Public Schools Board of Trustees is looking for feedback on its draft 2019-2020 school calendar, which was approved in principle on December 14th.
DRAFT CALENDAR: 2019-2020 School Calendar
The draft 2019-2020 school calendar reflects the feedback collected during the calendar consultations done last year, including providing long weekends throughout the year and starting school after Labour Day.
The proposed calendar has 190.5 operational days, which includes 180 instructional days (90 in each semester). It includes a four-day weekend at Thanksgiving, a two-week Christmas break and a spring break that coincides with Easter.
In addition to the feedback received from stakeholders last year, the calendar committee also took into consideration a number of other factors that impact the school calendar, such as the provincial diploma exam and achievement test schedules, the requirement to have 950 hours of instructional time a the elementary school level and 1,000 hours in high school, and the caps on instructional and assignable time for teachers.
To share your thoughts about the draft calendar, please send an email to email@example.com before Tuesday, February 5. The Board will review the feedback received prior to considering final approval of the calendar. The finalized calendar will be shared with all stakeholders once it is approved by the Board.
Thank you in advance for your feedback.
