Continuous Improvement in Northern Lights Public Schools
Northern Lights Public Schools would like to thank all of the parents, students and staff who took the time to participate in Alberta Education’s Accountability Pillar Survey during the 2016-2017 school year. The 2017-2018 Accountability Pillar survey will take place in January-February 2018. Alberta Education mails Accountability Pillar Surveys to parents of children in grades 4, 7 and 10 in January/February of each school year. Teachers, and students in grades 4, 7 and 10, complete surveys online. In small schools (fewer than 120 students in grades 4-12) all students in grades 4 and above and their parents are surveyed.
“We were very pleased the results, which show that the majority of our stakeholders are satisfied with the work we are doing in our schools,” said Board Chair Arlene Hrynyk. “The feedback we receive, and our schools receive, from the survey helps us determine the effectiveness of the strategies and initiatives we have in place and what areas we may need to focus on.”
More stakeholders participated in this year’s survey than in previous years. Overall, there was a 7.5% increase in participation, including a 25% increase in the number of parents who completed and returned their surveys.
This is the fourth consecutive year of overall improvement for the division, and we improved or improved significantly on nine of the 16 measures included in the pillar. That includes the academic measures where we saw improvements in both Provincial Achievement Test and Provincial Diploma Exam results, as well as survey measures, such as Safe and Caring, Parental Involvement, School Improvement
